I often elicit frightened looks when I talk to executives about leadership development and emphasize ideas like emotional intelligence, self-awareness, psychological health, compassion, and balance. Most leaders just want to go out there and boss people around because it takes a lot more effort to treat people well and motivate them from within.
Directive, controlling leadership is easy, everyone knows how to give orders and get mad when they’re not carried out. That’s why I like focusing on a more difficult but infinitely more rewarding type of leadership development, the kind where leaders are kind and get great results.
You’re cordially invited to peruse my iconoclastic leadership articles at https://www.theselfawarenessguy.com/category/leadership-self-awareness for practical and philosophical ideas on a different kind of leadership development.
