Awareness Meaning

Smiling and Self-Awareness

When you increase your self-awareness, you’re much more likely to smile because you’re more balanced and happy deep inside. Many years ago I encountered a person I hadn’t met before at a workplace of mine who looked directly at me and asked why I was smiling. Her facial expression and tone of voice indicated that she wasn’t joking, she genuinely wanted to squash my smile and do it quickly.

What happens when you encounter someone who doesn’t smile much? What’s the feeling you get from them? Countless people live lives of sadness, desperation, and resignation. They’re stuck in a depressing place and can’t see the positive alternatives available to them. I’ve found over years of working with people that it’s possible to overcome negativity and move in a more joyful direction, but it requires conscious effort and dedication.

It takes a lot of self-awareness and courage to smile, especially in the face of sadness, anger, fear, or uncertainty. The reason I smile in even some of the most difficult situations is because I ask myself, “What’s the alternative?” which is, by the way, what I said to the woman.

Building up your self-awareness is like smiling, it reflects your inner light and makes the world a better place. What will you do to develop self-awareness and smile more?

Self-Awareness and Choosing Your Path

Self-awareness allows you to consciously and deliberately choose your path in life because, when you know yourself well deep inside, you’re able to manage your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in a way that leads to success.

There are no rules as to which path you need to take in life. All you have to do is continue building self-awareness and move in a direction that makes you deeply happy and reflects your true self. That means that you get to choose what you want to do and how you want to do it based on your talents and abilities.

People hold themselves back because they choose paths in life that don’t reflect who they really are. The trick is to be self-aware enough to understand what your strengths and areas for improvement are and then plan a course of action that helps you learn and grow while making your dreams come true.

What will you do to develop self-awareness and choose the path in life that is a natural fit for you?

Self-Awareness, Leadership, and Reducing Stress at Work

Leaders who possess self-awareness are able to reduce stress at work because they understand how their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors can lead to a more calm, positive mindset.

Many leaders run around in a perpetual state of stress but did you know you can do some basic things to interrupt this pattern? Being stressed is a natural reaction if you’re being chased by a lion but can cause all kinds of problems if you are feeling it all the time in your workplace. Think of the following ideas to reduce your stress at work.

  1. Do things you love for a living. This will help you avoid the stress from doing a job you hate.
  2. Surround yourself with supportive people. Make sure that you interact with people who respect you for who you are.
  3. Limit the overwhelm. You don’t have to take on everything at once.  Do one thing well and move on to the next.
  4. Take time to take care of yourself. Take time each day to take a walk or talk with a supportive friend.
  5. Focus on the positive. Don’t worry so much about the stuff you can’t control or that goes wrong. Think about the things that are going well.

Try these ideas to help balance your work life. You’ll be thankful you started thinking this way when you feel more relaxed and less stressed out. What will you do to use your self-awareness to reduce the stress you feel at work?

Making Sense of the World around You with Self-Awareness

Making sense of the world around you can be a scary endeavor but self-awareness can help you do it because, when you are in touch with why you feel, think, and behave the way you do, you understand yourself, others, and the world around you better.

A lot of people look to external sources without realizing that they have all the answers they need inside. Right this moment, you possess within you the capacity to build your self-awareness and find the answers you need. If you’re trying to make sense of an often chaotic, difficult, tragic, and arbitrary world, you have the ability to do things to soothe yourself and find meaning and purpose. Try these ideas to get you on your true path:

  • Do things that build you up inside.
  • Learn how to love yourself.
  • Find answers to the difficult questions in life inside you.
  • Look internally rather than externally for answers.
  • Realize that the world doesn’t always make sense and often is chaotic and random but that you can find inner peace regardless of the situation.
  • Find your true path in life and follow it.
  • Realize that making sense of the world is a process that begins with first knowing yourself well and then applying your wisdom to everything else.
  • Turn negative situations into opportunities to learn and grow.

Trying doing one of these things and then check in with yourself, then do another. As you keep working on yourself, you’ll be building self-awareness and learn how to overcome any obstacle that comes your way. What will you do to develop your self-awareness and make sense of the world around you?

Self-Aware People Can Tell When They’re Not Really Happy

Self-aware people can tell when they’re not really happy because they have the ability to monitor and manage their emotions, thoughts, and actions. There are a lot of people out there who lack self-awareness and pretend they’re happy when they’re actually miserable. Here are twelve signs you’re not happy:

  • You put other people down.
  • You compete with others to boost your own self-image.
  • You say negative things.
  • You look stressed out or ill at ease.
  • You dedicate your life to causes that hurt people.
  • You defend reprehensible behaviors.
  • You have a history of poor relationships.
  • You say one thing and do another.
  • You live in fear.
  • You do what other people tell you to do.
  • You lack self-awareness.
  • You insist you’re really happy to hide how you really feel.

The key to being truly happy in life is to practice self-awareness and be the person you are at your core, the real you. One of the reasons I love connecting with people who value self-awareness is because their energy comes from a place of introspection, genuineness, creativity, and abundance. The easiest way to tell whether someone is happy is by just watching what they do. Happy people behave kindly, spread joy, and make the world a better place for themselves and others.

What will you do to be self-aware and truly happy?

Self-Awareness and Reducing Negative Thoughts

Self-awareness can help you reduce negative thoughts because, when you understand yourself well, you are able to focus your thinking in a positive direction. Negative thoughts can keep you from being the person you really want to be. Here are some examples of negative thoughts guaranteed to hold you back:

  • I can’t do this.
  • I’m not good enough.
  • I’ll never succeed.
  • I’m a loser.
  • My parents, siblings, friends, teachers, co-workers, and acquaintances were right about me.
  • I’ll never amount to anything.
  • My dreams don’t matter.
  • I’ll never be who I really want to be.
  • That’s impossible.
  • People like me can’t do those types of things.
  • I’ll continue doing what we’ve always done.
  • You can’t change.
  • Life is hard.
  • I always have bad luck.
  • I guess I’ll settle for this.
  • I prefer to be safe and comfortable.
  • Something bad is going to happen.
  • I’ll look stupid.

Imagine what your life will look like if you say things like these to yourself. As you increase your self-awareness, your thoughts will become more positive because you’ll be working toward being the real you, not these statements that tear you down. As you think more clearly and positively, you’ll be better able to take positive action to improve your life. The key to success is to think in ways that lead in a positive direction and help you be the real you.

What will you do to increase your self-awareness and reduce your negative thoughts?
